Socrates (469 to 399 BC) said: “Thou shouldst eat to live; not live to eat.” Also the phrase “One should eat to live, not live to eat” is attributed to Molière (1622-73), a French dramatist. Valère, in The Miser, act 3, scene 1. Hope this helps.
